Recovery by Alan Wilson

A painful journey through rough terrain
A path few choose to take
Leaving them vulnerable

Stripped of all defences and breaking down
A choice to rebuild and berated for it
Made pariah’s of society, when really the heroes

Barriers removed we see the world in all
No more ignorance, denial, blame or justification
We challenge these audacious absurd contradictions

Like a phoenix from the ashes
Arise enlightened with new found virtuous strength
Gifts of empathy, resilience, tolerance, courage, wisdom, integrity, faith, honesty and humility

We can conquer anything
Rose tints removed
We stand as few, wake and face the world a new

As soldiers fighting enemies foreign and domestic
Armed with tools of coping and control
We are the pinnacle of humanity, keep moving forward, never surrender
